What is Farm to School?

Value Statement:

Through our Farm to School program, Wolcott Public Schools inspires future-ready learners to explore the journey of food from seed to plate. By engaging in hands-on gardening, sustainable agriculture practices, and seasonal eating, students cultivate curiosity, responsibility, and respect for their health, their community, and the planet.

Information:

At Alcott Elementary School our Farm to School program connects students with Connecticut’s agricultural roots. By bringing "CT Grown" products into our halls, we nourish our students, enrich our curriculum, and strengthen our local economy.

The Three Pillars of Our Program:

  • The Cafeteria: We serve fresh, seasonal, and nutrient-dense meals by sourcing directly from Connecticut farms. Programs like "Taste Test Tuesdays" encourage students to discover and enjoy local produce.

  • The Classroom: Our school gardens and STEM lessons turn agriculture into a living laboratory. Students gain hands-on experience in biology, sustainability, and where their food comes from.

  • The Community: Every purchase supports local farm families, preserving our state’s open spaces and keeping our food dollars within the local economy.

Our Goal: To build a healthier student body and a more resilient community through the power of local food.
